Middle School

WELCOME TO MIDDLE SCHOOL!!

Students enter 6th grade with a plethora of knowledge from elementary school, ready to grow into adolescence! Middle school consists of grades 6 through 8. Students rotate to different teachers who provide specific core subject instruction throughout the day. 

A typical class day consists of advisory (similar to homeroom) and a seven period rotation. During those seven periods, they are exposed to reading, writing, math, science, social studies, health, physical education and a mixture of electives, including (but not limited to) art, technology, cooking, STEAM, electronics, sewing, marketing, and more.

Middle school offers curricula congruent with Minnesota Department of Education Academic Standards, with emphasis on linguistic and cognitive skills with real-world applications.

Student placement in classes is based according to similar academic levels and not specific to grade level. With this approach, students and teachers are able to achieve a more direct, targeted approach for an increased rate of growth while effectively covering state standards.

Middle school is supported by professional staff with specialized training in the areas of school counseling, social work, school psychology, speech and language pathology, physical and occupational therapy, DeafBlind services, orientation and mobility, and sign language. 

As they progress through middle school, they engage in activities such as student council, Battle of the Books, math competition, and more that prepare them for the transition to the academic and social world of high school.
